Its blackish-red, ovoid berries, 8-10 mm in diameter, appear at the end of summer. Because of their toxicity they are not suitable for human consumption, but they have ornamental value and are loved by birds. Its light requirements are moderate; it can be planted in both sunny and partly shaded spots, but the deeper the shade, the sparser the shrub becomes. It grows well in well-structured, nutrient-rich soil. It has moderate water needs. It can be planted as a standalone plant, as a hedge, in groups of shrubs, and even in pots. It is best used as a backdrop plant in compositions of shrubs and perennials that are decorative for their flowers and foliage, which makes it an indispensable element.
